YouTube Statistics: Hold On To Your Pants

Posted by Krysti 10 Sep, 2009

youtube-targetYouTube has been the talk of the town and it’s old news for me to tell you that there are millions of people taking advantage of the totally unique and unpredictable content that is produced by YouTubers every single day. There are plenty of people that use YouTube as a source of entertainment, comic relief, meditation, or just plain aimless browsing. I know when I’m having a bad day I can always find a funny video of a dog jumping on a trampoline or a baby farting. The global society as a whole has reached it’s arms out and completely embraced YouTube and all that it has to offer. The facts are in the pudding so get your spoon out.

I hopped over to Alexa.com where I searched and found the most up-to-date YouTube statistics. YouTube is the 4th most trafficked site on the entire web. Over 19% of all Internet users visited YouTube daily which is unbelievable. Think about it, YouTube captures 4% of all page views on the Internet every day. This is incredibly impressive for the reason that there are 1.6 billion people online everyday. Let’s do the math really quick on that. After a minute to figure it out, it turns out that there are 64,000,000 page views on YouTube on a daily basis. Wait a minute, it gets better.  4,266,667 visitors are responsible for those 64,000,000 page views, which means that each visitors makes 15 page views apiece, which doesn’t seem that difficult if you think that each user is on the site an average of 22.7 minutes. That is straight mindboggling if you compare it to the number one ranked site on the Internet, Google, which only averages just over 8 minutes on their site per user.

And I didn’t stop there. I decided to dig a little deeper. You see, we already know that everyone wants to hang out on YouTube, but the most important YouTube statistic to us as marketers, or people who have a product or service to share is, “Does YouTube actually have an influence on peoples’ desire to take action and buy?” “Are people committing to products and actually purchasing?” I think the numbers are going to speak for themselves. But let me wet your pallet with this little stat: 45% of all YouTube visitors are seeking information about products or services to purchase. That means every single day 2,053,333 people are on YouTube looking to buy (YouTubeReport2009.com). That’s a lot of people with their wallets open if you ask me.

The YouTubeReport2009 also states that “35% of YouTube users have purchased something online that they saw advertised on YouTube and 30% have followed a YouTube link to make a purchase.” My advice, get to YouTube, start your channel if you haven’t already started one, and take advantage of this rapidly expanding marketplace. One tip from a fellow marketer: don’t skip out on reading the rest of this eye-opening YouTubeReport2009 so you can get all of the numbers.
