Top Free Keyword Research Tools To Build The Best Keyword Lists Just Takes A Little Sniffin’ Around
Keywords represent the “gas” in the tank for your Google Adwords campaigns. So where do you go to fill up the tank? Where can you find the premium keywords?
Well, there are 4 free tools that I use and love for keyword research and like I just said, they’re all free. The first tool is the…wait, drum roll please… Google.com. So, you want to go to Google.com and type a seed keyword into the search box but don’t finish typing the word. When you do this Google will auto populate a list of words that will display under the word you were just typing. This list shows you exactly what people are searching for. And always remember, the list is in order of popularity. Jot down all of the relevant keyword terms that are relevant to you, your business or what ever you’re promoting.
The next tool is Google Insights, and the purpose of Insights is to deliver data about keyword trends. You get to see how the keyword has performed over time, the future projections and you’ll also see breakout keywords. Breakout keywords are great targets for your pay-per-click campaigns. And be sure to pick up negative keyword ideas here too.
Next is the Google Wonder Wheel (if don’t know what the Wonder Wheel is or where to find it here is a video). So, the Wonder Wheel gives you a cluster of keywords that are related to the keyword your have in the Google search box. The way the Wonder Wheel organizes keywords is in thematic groupings (themes). This is great because Google likes Ad groups organized in thematic lists. Spend a little time on the Wonder Wheel, there are tons of great keyword ideas you can dig up here.
The last tool is the Google Free Keyword tool. You can use it to, 1) check out new keywords, 2) see how competitive certain words are and 3) see monthly search volume. Another way to use this tool is for competitive research. Just plug in a competitors URL in the “website content” option on the left side of the page.
So, there you have it, the 4 free keyword tools I use for keyword research. Now, I know doing keyword research is not always the most fun activity, but getting good at this will take your marketing online to the next level.
Hit up the video tutorials on how to use the keyword I talked about: the Google Wonder Wheel, Insights and the Free Keyword Tool and let me know if you’ve got any other keyword tools that I missed or that you would recommend.
