There are some simple steps you can take to make sure you’re honest with yourself about your efforts on Pay Per Click and really maximizing your ad dollars.  This one step alone will save you from burning through hundreds if not thousands of ad dollars.

So, what is the most important step to ensure profit with Pay Per Click Search Marketing? Business goals.  You may be thinking, “Well, yeah of course you have to have business goals,” but I can’t tell you how many angry and frustrated PPC marketers are out there. The reason they are angry and frustrated is because they don’t have clear cut boundaries, goals, or a strict budget.

When you get started on Pay Per Click whether that is on Google Adwords, Microsoft Ad Center (Bing), or Yahoo Search Marketing do not spend a single ad dollar until you have clearly defined business goals. This will ensure that you’re a “results driven marketer.” The last thing you want to be is an emotional marketer.

First, you will need to set benchmarks for:

  • Sales
  • Revenue
  • Profits
  • ROI

These goals will be the driving force behind your Pay Per Click Search Marketing efforts and will help you keep a level head about what you’re doing with your campaigns. Remember to include both short term and long term goals for your marketing efforts that way you can better measure your results.

Most importantly, your goals should state exactly how many leads you want daily, weekly, and monthly along with the cost you’re willing to pay for those leads. Once you have these numbers down on paper the next challenge will be  standing your ground and keeping within your boundaries.  Be willing to delete keywords that are not working and never stop rebuilding and testing new keywords.

By taking this key step to develop your Pay Per Click business goal you will avod the costly mistake of wasting ad dollars (trust me, it’s painful…really painful).
